Every loaf starts the afternoon before. We mix at four, shape at nine and bake while the street is still dark, so the first ones out of the oven are yours.

The finished piece.

Hearth & Crumb’s new home page open on a laptop on the bakery counter, with loaves and pastries either side

The brief

Hearth & Crumb had a lovely shop and a home page that said almost nothing. Most visitors were regulars checking the opening hours, and pre-orders sat three clicks deep.

Mara wanted more people to order the night before, so the ovens could be planned and less bread went to waste.

What I wrote

  • A new home page built around the 7am pickup

  • Opening hours and the pre-order cut-off in one line

  • A button that says what happens next

  • Short notes for the five breads that sell out first

She found the one line our regulars actually care about. Now it’s the first thing people read.
